Measurable Impact, Real Results
Since 2013, Common Sense Healthcare has worked tirelessly to make the healthcare system more navigable and equitable for Colorado residents. Every number below represents a real person or family who received the advocacy support they needed when the system was stacked against them.
2024 Annual Impact Highlights
Our most recent fiscal year demonstrated sustained growth across all program areas, reflecting the increasing demand for patient advocacy services throughout the Denver metro area and beyond.
Insurance Navigation
In fiscal year 2024, our certified navigators assisted 1,840 individuals and families with health insurance enrollment, plan comparison, and eligibility determination. Of these, 62% were enrolling in coverage for the first time or returning after a gap in coverage exceeding twelve months. Our navigators facilitated an estimated $2.4 million in annual premium tax credit savings by ensuring applicants claimed the full subsidies they were entitled to under the Affordable Care Act.
Medical Bill Advocacy
Our billing specialists reviewed 680 medical bills totaling $4.8 million in patient-facing charges. Through error identification and direct provider negotiation, we achieved $1.9 million in total reductions, representing a 40% average reduction rate. We identified billing errors in 74% of the invoices reviewed, including duplicate charges, unbundled procedure codes, incorrect modifier usage, and balance billing violations that contravened the No Surprises Act or Colorado state protections.
Community Education
We conducted 94 community workshops reaching 2,200 attendees across 28 venue partners throughout the Denver metro area, Colorado Springs, Fort Collins, and Pueblo. Workshop topics covered the No Surprises Act, prior authorization rights, appeals processes, ACA enrollment, and prescription drug savings programs. Post-workshop surveys indicate that 88% of attendees reported feeling significantly more confident in their ability to navigate a healthcare billing or insurance dispute.
